Ferguson's Launch Move Into Greenock Warehouse To Support Growth

Bosses at Ferguson's have launched a big move into Greenock as they move their stores into town from Paisley.

The Port Glasgow shipyard has been an integral part of shipbuilding on the River Clyde since 1903 and recently signed a four-year lease at the large waterfront warehouse on Cartsdyke Avenue formerly occupied by Misco.

As well as helping to cement the recently nationalised business here, two new employees have also been recruited to help assist and operate the new premises.

Tim Hair, turnaround director at Ferguson Marine, said:

"This is an excellent opportunity to centralise our resources which will make things easier in the long run. We're hopeful this move will push our business forward."

The 77,000sq ft unit will be used to store inventory which has previously has been held in several warehouses near Glasgow Airport.

Stephen Connachan, 41, has been hired to help operate the new warehouse which is being leased from Greenock businessmen Sandy and James Easdale's investments and property arm Dalglen.

The Greenock man, who lives at Kincaid Court, said:

"It's brilliant as many years ago this site was part of the shipbuilding industry. It's a great opportunity and I'm glad to see it being restored to its former use.

"It's bringing the shipbuilding industry back to Greenock."

As well as being used as an inventory store, the large waterfront warehouse will be used for undertaking manual labour too.

Dalglen purchased the building for around £1m in June 2018.

Sandy Easdale said:

“This is a huge boost for the local economy and further repays the faith shown in acquiring the site."
