Gourock's Independent Retail And Art Collective Scene Continues To Thrive With the Arrival Of MIXO

Kempock Street has welcomed its latest independent retailer following the opening of MIXO Gourock.

Led by husband-and-wife team Gerry (pictured) and Jacqueline Brown, the new business has replaced Anne Melville Podiatry, which has since relocated to Bath Street also in the town.

The new store sells a collection of homeware and retail gifts for shoppers and also acts as the retail front of Gerry’s metal art business, selling many of his creations in store including his new range of outdoor/indoor mirrors and sculptures.

The shop opened in May 2022 and acts as the perfect base for the couple who also live in the town, with commercial property firm Bowman Rebecchi supporting the search for the new property.

Speaking of the new store, Jacqueline said: “We are delighted to open the shop as it has been a long-term ambition of ours to have a retail front to the business on Kempock Street.

“It was important for us to create the right environment for the shop, and we are delighted with the end result and think it fits in well with the other stores locally.

"We have really enjoyed the first few weeks and have had great early support from both locals and visitors to the town as the Summer tourism season begins to start.

“There has been great support also from Bowman Rebecchi, who were able to secure the property for us and we’d like to thank them for all of their help.”

Gourock’s creative scene continues to thrive, with MIXO joining others including Seagull Gallery, Domus Interiors, Alec Galloway’s Crow Cottage Arts, Original Artists, The Pirate & Bluebelle, Coorey In, and Studio Flowers.

With just one vacant office unit left in the town centre, Gourock continues to buck the current retail struggles that other areas across the UK are experiencing.

Andrew Bowman, Director of Bowman Rebecchi said: “This is another fantastic boost to the creative scene in Gourock, with all of the independent traders supporting and further enhancing the town’s proposition.

“We were delighted to support Gerry and Jacqueline and we believe the shop is looking exceptional following the refurbishment works.

“Gourock continues to be a highly popular location for thriving independent businesses and it is rare for units to become available, with Bowman Rebecchi retaining a waiting list for properties

“We would urge people to pop in and sample some of Gerry and Jacqueline’s stunning works and we wish Mixo Gourock continued success in their new home.”

MIXO is located at 50 Kempock Street in Gourock and is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10:30 – 17:00.
