Big Help Out Event Held By 32nd Greenock Scouts For King's Coronation

Greenock Scouts took part in a massive 'Big Help Out' event to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles.

The 32nd group invited various supporters and donors to an afternoon cream tea in their Bank Street halls to mark the UK-wide volunteering day.

Beaver leader and Bowman Rebecchi Office Manager, Kathleen Docherty (pictured) was delighted to support with the day.

At the same time, they also had a 'pop-up scouting' event showcasing to the public the fantastic activities they take part in.

On the day around hundreds of visitors came along, with many signing up to help out with the scouts.

Trustee David McCallum said: "It was a fantastic success, we had over 200 visitors and they all had a great time.

"The legacy of the Coronation and the Big Help out will last for a time to come.

"Our volunteer team will be boosted by new offers of support and many new joining enquires for young people have been received."

At the Big Help Out, the scouts had a team on hand to deliver outdoor cooking, games, bouldering, and many more exciting activities.

Later in the day the Lord Lieutenant of Renfrewshire, Colonel Peter McCarthy, and several depute lieutenants dropped in for tea.

Colonel McCarthy also came with a surprise presentation of a letter from His Majesty the King to thank the group for its continued service to the community of upper central Greenock.

The letter was accepted by King Scouts Gavin Lynn and Paul Burns, both of whom were at Windsor Castle recently to be presented to the Duke of Kent and Chief Scout Bear Grylls.

Greenock 32nd Scouts have 100 youngsters aged from four years old all the way to 18 years of age with a number of volunteering opportunities available.
